History of DAM Quick Reels 5

The oldest of us fishing junkies started their careers with a DAM reel. Or at least they know what it's about, they've seen them, touched them or coveted them when their parents or grandparents fondly told them "That's the reel you're not allowed to use". Whether it was Quick Junior, Finessa, Standard Royal, Spinnfix, Automatic, jewels in those days for any keen angler. For the younger ones, who haven't heard of DAM yet, I recommend them to see the movie "Operation Monstru" as a first step. But until then, let's recap a little history, the history of DAM Quick reels.

History of DAM Quick reels

The initials DAM stand for "Deutsche Angelgeräte Manufaktur" (meaning "German Fishing Tackle Manufacturer"). The DAM company was founded in 1902 by Fritz Ziegenspeck, who in 1887 was the owner of a blacksmith, sports and fishing factory, a business started by his older brother Oscar Ziegenspeck in Berlin in 1875.

In the year 1925, Otto Kuntze became the new owner of DAM. His son Hellmuth Kuntze led the new beginning and reconstruction of DAM after the war in the western part of Berlin. On November 11, 1955, the opening of a new modern factory in Berlin Gunzenhausen was celebrated.

The DAM company was sold in 1995 to the Dutch Trading House Koninklijke Borsumij Wehry BV – which was shortly taken over by Hagemeyer NV (another Dutch group of companies) – a turbulent and unpleasant period began for the company. After another change of ownership in early 2001, the company was declared insolvent.

But after only one year, a group of old employees, together with some loyal export customers, managed to reform the company in a new way "Neue (New) DAM International". Currently the company DAM produces and distributes the brands: QUICK for reels all categories, MAD - carp fishing, MAdCAM - sleep fishing, EFFECT - predator fishing, STEELPOWER - marine fishing.

Back to the future, the history of DAM QUICK reels returns

Back to the present day, I've been fishing since I was a kid and I've had a lot of old DAM reels through my hands, some of which I started my spinning games with. But from the old models to the present day, I admit that no DAM reel produced after the 2000s turned me on. All until a DAM Quick 5 reel caught my attention. At first I liked the design "vintage", smooth roll, generous drum for long casts and low weight. For a reel under 100 euros I honestly admit that I was impressed: aluminum body, rotor, carbon brakes and salt water resistance. I took the 3000 model and did a quick test on Tancabesti. Big Like.
